#13 Conclave (2024)

nicely paced, nicely executed. really good usage of color in the entirety of the film, feels quite inspired by the colors and framing of old paintings that have yellowed with time. might be a little disappointing because the mystery feels like it could be deeper or more important than it truly was but it is more of a political intrigue inside an enclosed space rather than a locked-room mystery.

worth watching just for the novel setting, even if it doesnt develop the politics of it on a particularly deep level, its more about the mechanics of electing a new pope rather than debating the political opinions of groups inside the catholic church. i wonder if the original novel goes any deeper into it since that feels like it could fill an entire a blunt-weapon sized book
